So, I'm car-free now and was in need of transportation to get to a luncheon today. As I saw it, I had three options:
1. Ask someone for a ride
2. Take the bus
3. Use Zipcar
I decided that rather than be on someone else's schedule with option #1 or #2, I would get my own car and drive myself so I went onto the Zipcar website and reserved a Civic Hybrid. I have to say, using a Zipcar is incredibly easy. I logged onto the website, picked a car from a location near my office, got my confirmation and walked downstairs to my set of wheels for the afternoon. It was actually easier than if I would have driven my own car since all I had to do was pull up to the downtown garage exit and the gate went up. Normally, I'd have to stop, wait on the parking garage attendant to scan my ticket, and dig out the $25/day fee - yikes! Nope, I just watched the gate go up and waved to the attendant as I drove past.
Now comes the bad part of my experience, I totally underestimated the traffic getting out of downtown so I was a few minutes late to Patti Dobrowolski's luncheon. Sheesh - why can't the lights be timed to let traffic flow a bit better. Anyway...Patti is this amazing woman who I know from the Wines of Washington bike racing team. She has a gift of pulling together positive, influential people who are trying to make a difference in this world. You can find out all about her work at Alchemy.
I went to the luncheon, met some amazing people and got back into my car in time to make it back to my Zipcar spot long before my reservation expired. It was so easy. It was if I had driven my own car...except "I no longer have a car."
Wait..."I no longer have a car" is a glass 1/2 empty kind of statement. I'm more of a glass 1/2 full lady. "I now have an entire fleet of cars". Yep - that's me!!
